Acceptance letter/tuition hike?

Hi, first I would like to say please don’t respond if you’re not knowledgeable about this subject.

I applied to and was accepted to an LPN Program in the state of Oklahoma. I received my unconditional acceptance letter on May 26, 2010. The letter states that the cost for tuition and fees for the 2010-2011 LPN Program is ,048.00. There is no disclaimer that this cost is subject to change, etc.

Today (ten days before the start of the program) I receive a post card notifying me that they’ve increased the cost of tuition and fees from ,048.00 to ,748.00.

I have resigned my job with a University in order to attend this program. I’ve made irreversible life changes in order to attend this program. It’s unfair to not be given ample time to make an INFORMED decision. This program has gone from being something that was affordable to something that is not affordable now.

Please let me know if I have any legal rights regarding this. I would think that my acceptance letter is binding. They should have to honor the original cost quoted (especially since there is no disclaimer).

    I’m defintely not a lawyer but I know for a fact that all schools are very clear on this:

    “All tuition and fee schedules are necessarily subject to change without notice at any time upon action by the (school board), regardless of the tuition and fee schedules in effect at the time of an offer of admission.”

    this may not be indicated in the acceptance letter you got but it is tacit in every school’s admission policy. check out any school website. the disclaimer is clearly stated there.

    I know it’s very unfair but that’s it.
