How Come Celebrities Aren’t Organizing Benefits To Help The People Of North Dakota That Are Flooding?

  • I would imagine that you would have to ask in a more approprate catagory, such as one that would have celebrities on it.
    I will say that this question could be construed as whining because there was no large scale disaster in ND that affected millions of people and you are experiencing disaster envy, (I will assume you are from somewhere where you wish you, your friends, neighbors, your town, your county, and all your family were wiped out and perhaps a relative or friend had died as a result.) Oddly enough there was an editorial about such ignorant rants as yours in today’s Times-Picayune.
    Fargo, Vice Mayor Tim Mahoney told the NY Times that “In a way, it’s bad to win.” Apparently you and Tim are both disappointed that that the city of Fargo was not devistated, that people are not finding their dead parents in their living rooms like my friend’s brother did. Obviously you and Tim both feel excessive media coverage and celebrity benifits are worth having to smell the body of a neighbor that the searchers missed.
    Fortunately, the good people of Fargo don’t have these memories, don’t have to clear out a life time of hard work out of their homes, and unlike you and Tim ARE grateful that the bullet was dodged.
    Oh and did you know that the Katrina evacuation was the largest and most successful in American history? Well, that is until we beat the record for Gustav.
    Oh and did you know that out of a population of 92,000 in Fargo, the AP reports via federal records that only 586 homeowners have flood insurance? I’m willing to bet they would be filling out those FEMA applications for those SBA loans just like people here had to do.
    As for shooting at rescue workers, well, all I can say is that you can blame the 400,000 pre-K NOLA residents for the actions of a couple thousand if that is what makes your world go round.

    I would sincerely LOVE to see just one of them post up on this, but alas they are probably too busy getting their manicures and discussing politics with they’re girlfriends Madam.
  • Ohio towns have floods and a few hundred people need to evacuate. It’s nothing like what happened in NOLA. Louisiana and Mississippi faced a horrible catastrophe. We’re learning from these states how to deal with it.

    There are more CNA jobs than there are LPN jobs, but LPN’s make more money. Both require schooling, CNA is a short training program, and LPN is a 2 year college program. CNA’s take a state registry test to get certified and LPN sit for state test to get licensed.

    A CNA does really most all of the labor in nursing homes and hospitals, but LPN’s are higher in the chain of command than CNA’s. There is only one thing lower than them and they are trained NA’s! If your going to go to school in nursing, become a CNA first. It doesn’t take that long and it looks good to add that to your resume or something when you apply for school to study LPN. LPN’s do lots of paper work and record everything. They don’t totally have to do what CNA’s do but then again… even they have to do work sometimes. CNA’s and NA’s do all the heavy duty lifting, thankless feeding, turning, toileting, showering and all that fun stuff. I didn’t hate being a CNA, but along with the good days were the bad days!

    some places are phasing out lpns and it is hard as any new grad to obtain employment in a medical field without previous medical experience. CNAs make very little money and it is back breaking work. Some nursing homes are hiring CNAs and will actually put you through a CNA program of their own design for free. I figured that because of the “nursing shortage” that it would be fairly easy for me to obtain a job after I graduated, but most places are saying they want one year of experience before they will hire a new grad. and there are many many many people looking for jobs everywhere. i guess it depends on where you are living. depending on your academic goals, and your location, you should also see how long the waiting lists are to get into whatever program you are looking for because many nursing programs have looooong waiting lists

    LPN, more money and more opportunities, you will also be able to work a more flexible schedule, such as a weekend Baylor in which you would work 2–12 hour shifts on Sat/Sun and get paid for 36 hours.

    I’d imagine you’d think so.
    What makes you think people IGNORED evacuation orders? Some yes, but has it ever occurred to you that many had little option but to stay? Obviously not.
    And I’m sorry, when you have no other way out of a city and it floods to rooftops, I didn’t think that it was a bad thing to ask for help.
    Next time we’ll just drown, will that make you happier?
