How hard in ohio is it to find work as a certified medical assistant?

This Question From Ohio LPN Programs | 2 Answers

I was, or am considering going to school to become a medical assistant. While speaking to my WIA “helper” at Job and Family services about possible $ aid ( I am laid off from my former employer) I was told their is not a need for them in our area. I live North of Dayton in a smaller community. I cannot believe all of the schools offering this program, if there are no jobs. Are any of them working? What can I go into besides LPN that will get me a job, without a ton of school? Any opinions would be great.
Thank you for your time, have a great day!

Pharmacy jobs are growing fast. If I were you, I’d visit Sinclair or some other nearby college, talk to an advisor and see what they suggest. The people at ODJFS are so overwhelmed right now I wouldn’t take their advice on anything!

Glad your asking questions because you need to validate your assumptions.

    1) There should be opening for CMA in the Ohio area. Are you looking in the right places (hospitals, clinics, nursing homes).

    2) A CMA is trained, but salaries are really entry level.

    3) Rather than LPN, I would sugggest you look at a Radiation Tech program. There are few Rad Tech’s and the schooling is just as long as an LPN, but your going to make more (and have a shot at better hours).

    4) If you have you have your heart bent on becoming an LPN, first check out 2 or 3 year RN programs. If you can be an LPN you may as well be an RN (you’ll make 40 to 60% more depending on where you live)

    5) Don’t assume CMA, LPN or RN jobs are recession proof. Lots of clinics, hospital, and nursing homes are cutting back right now (again some areas of the country are hit harder than others)

Good luck, and I hope you find what your looking for.
