How Often Do You Feed A Kitten?
This Question From LPN Nursing Training | 5 Answers
I have a 9 week old kitten and I have had him for a week now. I leave a bowl of food out all day for him to eat whenever he wants. Are you only supposed to feed him 2-3 times a day?
My main problem is, he keeps pooping all over the house about 15 minutes after he eats. I keep a very close eye on him, but he scurries under the couch and hides very well. He uses the litter box only when I put him in my bathroom when i leave with the litter box.
any help pn litter training would be greatly appreciated.

You need to litter train you cat. That’ll solve the problem. For now, keep in a room with litter box and his stuff (toys food, etc) and see if he gets the hang of it. Maybe he’s having trouble finding his litter box in such a big place. Another possible problem is that cats like privacy when using the rr, just like us. Put the litter box somewhere where there is privacy – I put mine under my bed (my bed is 4 feet off the ground – on campus apt) and at my boyfriends house, I put it alongside a bookcase. Perhaps he doesn’t like the litter? Use unscented clay litter – scented litter throws off the kitten and clumping ones aren’t good for kittens if ingested. If that doesn’t work, Dr. Elsey’s Kitten Attract litter works. That’s how I litter-trained my kitten. You can find this at Petsmart or Petco.
I feed my 6 week old kitten a 5 ounce can of food per day spread out into 4 meals. I never leave food out for him cuz he doesn’t quite know when to stop eating.
He’s pooping really fast, perhaps it’s not good food? I give my kitten Nutro Max kitten food.
First of all a 9 week old kitten should not have full reign of the house. Think of them as a human toddler, very energetic and very mischievous. The kitty should be confined to a bedroom with food and a low litter box when not directly being supervised by you. Animals that young need constant supervision for nothing else than to ensure their safety. There are undoubtedly things in your house than would hurt/fall on the animal. The pooping every 15 min could mean the food is wrong, Try higher protein food for the kitten.
feed him 2-3 times daily. after 2 minutes take up what is left. always keep fresh water out for him. to litter box train him yu will need to keep him in the room with te litter box. after a few days he should learn. remember though, he is a kitten, keep the litter box close to where he hangs out so that way he can get to it fast.
has soon has he hasnt finished eating, stick him in the litter tray..he still only a kitten so be patience he will learn eventually.
If your feeding a good kitten food it won’t poop so much and only put down food twice aday.
