68W AIT is pretty intense, plenty of hands -on training,(didactic & practical), field training, you will get some basic certification before you leave Ft. Sam Houston in
    San Antonio, TX.
YOU have to do your time as a 68W after AIT, get experience, possibly deployment then apply for the LPN/LVN program!

Hi, i’m a 68W. If you want to do the 91W then make sure they have you doing that right after your 68W training at Ft. Sam. You’re in the army, you know the deal.

68W training is pretty intense. I had to study my ass off. I consider myself decently smart. I was always an honor roll student and I have a 127 GT score from the ASVAB.

AIT is 16 weeks. The first 8 weeks are spent in class rooms studying for your NREMT to get your basic EMT license. That test is a bitch. The next 8 weeks are spent doing field, hands on training. Alot easier than the first 8 weeks but still pretty difficult.

In Ft. Sam, you have alot of partying time, especially if you’re prior service. I’d say like 8 out of 10 prior service didn’t graduate with us b/c they just didn’t study enough b/c they were out all the time. I seriously studied more in AIT than in college. Good luck!

Unless things have changed 68W (Medic) is what you need prior to getting your ASI (Additional Skill Identifier) of M6 (LPN) added to your Medic MOS.
91W is what the medic MOS used to be, now it is 68W.
The medic course is challenging (my wife is a 68W going through the M6 course as we speak).
If you don’t mind me asking, why do you want 68WM6? Are you interested in Nursing? If you are, will you be trying to go RN later? If you want RN, the LPN route is actually not the best way to go (this is from M6′s I’ve spoken with).
If you are just looking for some good medical training you can use on the outside, I would suggest 68P (XRay tech…which I am), or 68V (Resp Tech). Both are very challenging and offer great chances once you get outside.
I am NOT saying you can’t make good money as M6…most places starting out you can make more as an LPN than as an XRay Tech…but advancing as just an LPN is very limited and the training to be LPN (68P school AND M6 school) can be a little longer than the 68P and 68V courses.
I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do and hope my answer helps in some way.
