i really need some help on a very important decision…….?
This Question From Mississippi LPN Programs | 4 Answers
i am currently enrolled in college and attending prerequisite classes to enter into the 2 yr RN program. well i found out yesterday that i wont be excepted into the program until August of 2009. even then, the directer of the program said hat it becomes a draw over 300 students who have already applied. then they only pick 50. so needless to say i was kind of stunned. i will have my prerequisites finished this winter though. so until i am chosen i am a sitting duck. i was thinking about entering into the lpn program which is easier to get into and only takes a year to finish. the own side of that is lpns dont make as much money out here in mississippi. like 13-15.00 to start. i have two questions…. what do you guys think i should do? and is there a site i can go to that shows the pay rates for differant states for lpns? i would hate to stay in Mississippi and make alot of nothing. thanks
to the first answer… i have thought about going to a differant school, but there arent any more out here that have the RN program. i was told that if i continue taking classes and such to take up time beore i get into the program, then i would use up all my financial aid and end up paying to get thru RN training myself.

holy crap they only make 13 to 15? Here in WI I dont know any LPNs that make less then 25
I think while you wait you should just go through your LPN..it will give you more knowledge on nursing and its something to do while waiting but when you have the chance…finish your RN
Have you thought about going to a different school?
Well, hon, after having been an RN since 1978, I have to tell ya you won’t get rich as a RN either. We nurses – LPNs and RNs alike – are among the most poorly compensated of all the professionals.
I’d go for the LPN ’cause the hands-on work experience you’ll get while waiting to get into the RN program is as valuable as all the time you’ll spend in class.
Have you considered enlisting after you get your LPN? The pay and benefits are very good. Second option: enlist for the WRAIN program: Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing. You get accepted, you go to college at University of Maryland and do your clinical over at Walter Reed Medical Center. You graduate with a commission as an Army nurse – yes, those gold bars on your shoulders look real nice – and your RN.
You’ll never regret going that route.
why not go to university get your Bachelors degree in nursing. I assume this is a community college right!! I know out here its a 2-3 year wait once you get put on the waiting list. So your school is diff. they only pick 50 out of 300. Here you name gets on the list and when they get to your name your in. Def look into other colleges universities you can always get loans to finance your education.
im in the same boat as you, but il finish next fall.
heres my game plan
1. apply to all schools around my area that has the program
2. if i dont get in, get all the pre for BSN
simple–but its a plan
