ANYTHING is better than working in a nursing home. You won’t know until you try where your interest is. If you don’t like a doctors office, you can try something else. At least in a doctors office you would have GREAT hours, nights and weekends off.

Augh, i hate nursing homes. It’s a tough job…mentally, physically, and esp since the state comes in always randomly checking and asking you questions. I personally lik the hospital settings. In my state, they seem to be hiring LPNS more than RNS…you might like working in a clinc

Since doctor’s offices aren’t open 24/7 or weekends in most cases you’ll enjoy a nice schedule and a much more pleasant work atmosphere, but you may be offered less pay in that position than you earn in the nursing home setting.

On the other hand your duties will be different in that you won’t have a large patient load that needs near-constant care, help with dressing, feeding, or activities of daily living etc..

You’ll be guiding patients to the exam room, assisting as needed to prepare them for exam, perhaps taking vital signs and a brief history of presenting complaint etc, assisting with in-office medications such as breathing treatments, injections, etc, and other such tasks. Most doctor’s offices see as many patients per day as they can, but you won’t have the same kind of patient day in/day out and you won’t normally be dealing with incontinence or walls finger painted with doo doo etc…

Be sure to check differences in benefit plans between the nursing home you work at and doctor’s offices that you apply at as there may be significant differences in vacation plans, retirement plans, tuition assistance plans etc.

    Good luck!
