I’m Obsessed About Living In Hawaii, I Have A Plan To Get There! What Do You Think?

This Question From Hawaii LPN Programs | 10 Answers

I live in a boring depressing state, washington state…it rains all the time, and it’s really foggy here. I’m going crazy! i would love for my 3 year old son to grow up in hawaii…so i came up with a plan, i’ll go to school, and become an lpn, then go back and become a registered nurse, it’s alot of schooling, but i was always good at school. I’ve already checked out cottages and condos, i know the prices for homes, food, etc..but i can handle it, I also will have about $15,000 saved up in the next 3- 5 years, i know it’s hard to find a job there, but i was thinking about finding a job there before i move, which is gonna be hard, they rather hire people from the island first, but hey! there’s always a chance that someone will hire me here, then i move! what do you guys think of my plan? I’m very determined, when i say i will do something, I usually stick by it.

You will save time & money by going straight for the RN. To obtain an ADN degree takes not a whole lot longer than the LPN & is much more marketable. Although the long term outlook for nursing positions in Hawaii is very good, right now the market is tight. This is at least partly because the economy is bad & the 401s have tanked so badly that many nurses are postponing retirement. Generally, nursing is one field where it is relatively easy to get a job. When the market turns, you could try doing travel nursing to see if you really like it here as much as you think you will. Though that might be tough to do with a child.

sounds good, the Starbucks state is depressing thats why all the lattes. Hawaii is a great place, but hard to find work, get your degrees, then come out and stay and play. find work first, you sound like you got a plan and i admire that…..take that plan one step at a time to not get discouraged. nurses and medical people are needed all over the states including Hawaii. good luck to you!

pretty good. and just like the other guy a lot of people down here dont know anything you see them working at 7-11 and ABC stores so its best that you get your degree unlike all the low lives that have nothing better to do then drink and smoke. You really should just go straight to being a RN. My moms a RN and she was talking about a traveling nurse they pay for everything you need, and you can travel all over the world including cruise ships. And um THE WHOLE ISLAND HAS DRUGGIES is not like anythings new not just honolulu but EVERYWHERE you go there will be a druggie.

I think it’s very possible. But just a little warning; not everything in Hawai’i is going to be beautiful. Trust me. I’ve lived here all my life (15 now).

I did the same thing. I moved to Oahu right out of high school and lived here for 17 years now. I had no money, besides what I had for school, which was the University of HI.

If that plan works for you, then why not?
However, you really should consider a lot more than the weather. Yes, Washington gets rain and it happens to have been foggy lately. It’s winter. But Washington also has good schools, a vibrant economy that depends on a lot more then just a single industry (tourism), and has a lot more going for it (and for your son).
But if you really want to go, and you can really stick to that plan, and you will enjoy nursing, then go for it.

It’d be awesome if you could go to Hawaii but I should let you know that it rains here a lot too. But since you don’t like Fog don’t live in Kaneohe even though it’s one of the cheapest places to live. Sounds like you have a good plan but the safest places to live are Aiea and in the middle because Honolulu has a lot of druggies walking around as for Wainae it’s a ghetto place. That is if you’re planning to move to Oahu. Anyway good luck and have fun moving here. I live here and dang I could never leave.
