It’s definitely not easy to become an LPN. The main ingredients you’ll need are hard work, dedication and common sense. The program generally last 2 years, and it touchs on a wide range of body functions. I did go to LPN school while working a full time job. Although not easy, very rewarding. Technical schools are definitely the cheapest choice. Being an LPN is just like being an RN. I work with a lot of RN’s and do the same exact job as they do. But…unfortunately i make quite a bit less. It’s a fantastic career choice. You can’t beat making $15+ for 2 years of school and not have to work in a factory.
Sometimes it is hard being an LPN because you only have certain job opportunities. I love it, don’t get me wrong. It gives u a lot of nursing experience that u wouldn’t get going straight to RN (they do not get as much clinical time where i live). I am back in school as of now doing my prerequisites to get my RN. It is a trying time being in LPN as most programs are like working a full time job… many hours… but i did it, and was working full time for the first 7 months of program and a wife and mother of two with one on the way. As long as you are dedicated, u can make it through!! best of luck… it is worth it in the end!
To be honest w/you being an LPN for 25 years was one of the most rewarding things I ever did !!! I absolutely loved it!Before you apply to an accredited school & have a high school diploma or ged think about the pros & cons of lpn vs. r ns. The Rns make almost double your salary as an LPN & all you need is 1 additional year of education to do this !! I just wished someone had spoke like this to me before hand . Your work ethics are very similiar but the Rns have the respect & job options you won’t ever get as an Lpn. I am not trying to talk you out of this by any means I just want you to weigh all the options !!
Did you get D’s or better in high school? Yes? Then you’ll be fine.
a lot of LPN’s I know end up becoming an RN, so you might be doing yourself a favor if you started off as one. RN school is about as long and it would double or triple the amount of money you make.
