i'm currently doing pre-requisites. It really depends on what the schools degree plan is cause alot of schools are different. if you're going to community college though usually the pre-requisites that are needed (at least in Texas where i live) are:

2 semesters of Chemistry
2 Semesters of Anatomy and Physiology
1 semester of Microbiology
Philosophy
Ethics
psychology
Developmental psychology
sociology
2 semesters of History
2 semesters of English
2 semesters of Government

That's usually just for community colleges which offer a LPN-ASN
then when you get accepted to nursing school after all that you take regular nursing courses. Then when you want to go for your RN, again depending on what school you go to, you need a couple of Biology classes and some elective courses and you go to nursing school a little longer. I would recommend finding out what pre-requisites you need for an RN degree and just get all of those out of the way.
There are many different routes you can take to become an RN. at the end of this semester i will have 74 credits. I took every pre-requisite i needed to become an RN. In the fall i'm going to nursing school to get my LVN-ADN degree at a community college then i'm going to a big university to get my RN degree. I dont know about the midwest but in Texas most LVN's start out at around 40,000 but it all depends on what you work. My friend is an LVN working Med-Surg and he made 100,000 last year because he worked six days a week, nights (which pay differential), and holidays. RN's make around 60k a year depending on the job and what type of facility (hospital, clinic etc) .I'm going for my NP (masters degree) in med-surge. I'll be making around 90k a year.

I know it sounds like alot but honey i'm 20 years old and i've worked my butt off and it seriously doesnt take that long to get the pre-requisites done. the courses can be challenging but if you really want to do it it'll be a fun challenge and very rewarding. just dont let people scare you into saying you cant do it or try to tell you how hard it is to get into nursing school. Nurses are in HIGH demand right now just go for it

dear ms fancy,
you will need to take anatomy and physiology, chemistry, psychology, sociology, as well as English, speech and history of nursing
my advice only enter nursing if you LOVE caring for others. i have been a nurse for a million years. it is good money but even better satisfaction..but be prepared to study your little butt off !!! best wishes
