Nursing license transfer…?

This Question From LPN Nursing NCLEX | 3 Answers

I need to get my LPN nursing license transferred from Texas to New York. How do I go about doing that? I checked out the NY State Board of Nursing website and couldn’t really find much information. I don’t have to take another NCLEX exam in NY do I?

You should not have to retake the NCLEX because it is a national test. You should call the New York Board of Nursing, you should just have to pay for a New York licence fee and fill out the paperwork and wait for approval. Good Luck!

I’m a RN and have transferred to numerous states since graduating (including NY State), never had to re-take the licensing exam. (I’ve been licensed in Ohio, NY, Arizona, PA).
However most States have certain criteria that you have to have passed the exam with a certain % in order to obtain a license in their state.

The State Board of Nursing for any state will have the information that you need. Look under the Nursing licensing website and then reciprocity. If you can’t find it on the website, just call them and they’ll have all the answers for you. It really is quite an easy process.

Just be aware that it takes several weeks for your license to come through- you can apply for a temporary license, but some employers wont honor it and wont hire you until you have your permanent license in place —– that being the case, apply for the license early in your transfer.
