Starting a career as a lpn?
This Question From Ohio LPN Programs | 2 Answers
I am 21 and have my GED I have 2 kids and stay at home. I always wanted a job in the nursing field. I live in Columbus Ohio. What I want to know is where to begin. I have been out of high school since 2002. I know look at colleges but all the stuff is sooo confusing. Like most of the nursing schools around me that I found gives you a list of all the classes you need to take before you can even apply to get in. Also I have searched the web alot and have seen lpn certificate programs are these the same thing as going to a nursing school. I would like to do some of my studying online if at all possible I know I would need lab time and all that. So if anyone could give me some advice on where and how to get started it would be greatly appreciated

I would say the best way to find out the specifics of LPN is to actually visit the school. I am 29 years old, almost divorced, and have 3 kids. You can do this!!! You should check this out! Then the school will help you get financial aid and some grants. You may be surprised at what you will get. Being that you are a mother of 2 people are more willing to help.
I heard something about learning how to be a nurse online. I’m not sure how that works. But I would think you need to learn in a real class setting so you can learn how to take blood and do blood pressures.
I hope this helps. I’m starting school next month. It’s going to be a sacrifice being that I won’t be available for the kids that munch. But it’s only for a year. When I’m done with school I will get a good job. Then I can afford all of my bills, and take care of the kids the way I want.
If I can do it, you can do it!!!!
I believe that the only nursing programs available online are for those that already hold a RN (registered nurse) certification as one really needs to hone their hands-on clinical skills while in the classroom.
General info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and search ‘licensed practical nurses’ or such. Please steer clear of private $$ schools and instead look into the county vo-tech school. Please also be wary of online, for profit schools such as penn foster, stratford career, university of phoenix and others: http://www.uopsucks.com
