What Can’t A Lpn Do That An Rn Can Do In Management Positions? Anyone????

This Question From Minnesota LPN Programs | 1 Answer

QUESTION:

I currently have my LPN license in Minnesota…I am working towards my RN. However a management position opened up at my work and I am not being onsidered for it d/t my current license. I want just wondering if there are LPN’s out there who are in management that can tell me how they handle things that the RN is supposed to do. Thank you

I would ask they consider you because you are in process of getting this degree AND have experience – as an LPN. Perhaps you are being passed over because -
In general, LPNs function in a “dependent” role that requires supervision or assistance from an RN or physician. RNs, on the other hand, may take action independently if they see fit. RNs also address a wider spectrum of issues than LPNs. The primary focus for an LPN is the client; she provides direct patient care, including determining status, devising a plan and evaluating outcomes. An RN performs these duties as well, often in more complex or unpredictable cases than those handled by an LPN due to her greater breadth and depth of knowledge. (however you may have all of this now due to more school AND experience right?)
