What type of work should I start out with?

This Question From LPN Nursing NCLEX | 2 Answers

I graduated a couple of months ago, and recently acquired my state license to practice as an LPN. I do plan to go back to school to finish my bachelor’s and take the NCLEX-RN eventually. (Hopefully registering for night classes again this fall).

I’m especially interested in working in an Oncology department at a hospital or an ICU unit in the future, but I realize much experience, and my RN license, is needed.

Therefore, where should I start? I would love to start working, so I’ll take just about anything at first, but I’d like to get my foot in the door at a local hospital as an LPN for the experience, and to learn in any unit, but I never see ads for hiring. How do I go about getting my resume out there?

Hopefully there are some experienced nurses browsing here that might give a new, wet-behind-the-ears nurse some sound advice. =)
That wasn’t very nice….

Many hospitals hire LVNs to work in their medical-surgical units. Try calling the various hospitals in your area & get the address of the HR department to send a resume to. Many SNFs also hire LVNs to pass meds.
Good luck on completing your RN, options will be come more available to you once you have passed your NCLEX.
